Warrior Concepts - Don’t Tread On Me III

Story contributed by FatLipMMA.com

April 7, 2010

Scot Ward of Warrior Concepts continued to deliver a solid show in Central Illinois with Don’t Tread on Me III. The Illinois State Fairgrounds venue is second to none, featuring an upper deck for fans to observe the fights from an overhead view that is fantastic. The MMA fans of Springfield, IL seem to understand their MMA (note: you do not normally hear these fans yelling at the referee “Elbows, Knees, or Stand them Up” etc...). The crowd is well behaved and enthusiastic.

In the feature fights, Tamikka Brents continued her winning streak over Monica Beasley with an impressive take down and ground & pound, which Beasley had no answer for. Another fight of note was Bill Elmore of Blind Dog MMA VS Eric “Boomer” Ferguson of Warrior Concepts. This fight was arguably the fight of the night, but what you could not question was Bill Elmore’s heart. Ferguson the younger fighter of the two, displayed cleaner technique and appeared to have a slightly better gas tank than the older Elmore. Ferguson lived up to his moniker “Boomer” by repeatedly testing the chin of Elmore, whom ultimately got the win by ref stop @ 2:59 of Rd 2. Again its worth repeating, the heart and intestinal fortitude of Bill Elmore was recognized by receiving thunderous ovations from the fans. It was Ferguson that walked away with the hard fought victory, but Elmore walked away with a truckload of respect from all those that witnessed it last night.

In the Co-Main Event it was Dustin Pierson of CMMA VS Trevor Ward of Warrior Concepts, this fight had it all, from Jiu Jitsu, clench game, wrestling, boxing and throw in the rich traditions of CMMA and Warrior Concepts, now we have the ingredients of an awesome fight. Through the majority of the 2-1/2+ rounds, the fight see-sawed back and forth and just when Pierson seemed to be in control with position on the ground, it was Ward who repeatedly slipped out the back door. Pierson the more experienced fighter, took victory @ 2:18 of Rd 3 by catching Ward in a modified armbar from side control. It is our opinion both these fighters will be solid pros in the future and that MMA looks bright for the Midwest MMA scene as the level of competitors like these two continue to sky rocket. As Pierson’s record improves to 9 victories and only one blemish. The young, Ward’s record moves to 2 and 1, the future looks bright for the “Backdoor Man” Trevor Ward.
