Knogl Decisions Vazquez for Bi-State Belt at Sudden Impact XII, April 9, 2010

On Friday, April 9th, 2010 Sudden Impact brought together a stacked card with twelve amateur bouts scheduled. To a normal eye that would look like a small card but don’t be fooled because out of those twelve bouts their was four title fights and ten of the fighters on the card are ranked in the top ten of their division’s per the Ground & Pound Show.
AMATEUR BOUTS
Bout 1: Branden Wehmeier vs James Hoyt
In round one both fighters start exchanging hard shots. Wehmeier has the better stand up landing a number of upper cuts on Hoyt which busted his nose open. Rounds two and three both fighters catch each other with a number of hard shots dazing/dropping a few times but both fighters regaining stance and position. Overall Wehmeier pushed the pace along with controlling the fight with more damage. Both fighters showed they where warriors not backing down.

Bout 2: Dwayne Quirin vs Brad Homer
As both fighters walk out to the cage you can feel the crowd as they start roaring for Homer being a home town favorite in this match.
In round one the fighters come out throwing big shots looking for that knock out finish. Neither fighter is looking more dominate then the other then out of no where Homer shoots of a high kick that catches Quirin on the jaw. You can tell that Quirin is stunned and round one ends. Round two Homer comes out more aggressive looking to finish the fight swinging for the fences. Homer catches Quirin with some hard combos that drops him still conscience rolls to his stomach. Homer jumps on Quirin back sinking in a RNC Quirin has no answer for it and passes out from no tapping.
Winner: Brad Homer defeats Dwayne Quirin via RNC
Bout 3: Rob Miller vs Tim Robbins
In round one both fighters feel each other out throwing some jabs with nothing landing. Miller throws a hard mid kick to Robbins ribs which makes Robbins clinch up. Both fighters stay in the clinch stalling for a bit making the ref break them up. Miller is limping on now from the hard kick he threw. With thirty seconds left both fighters start throwing wild over hands, jabs and hooks hoping for something to land.
Robbins could not answer bell for the second round due to eye injury.

Bout 4: Dave Callow (ranked #15 in fighters’ weight class) vs Josh Crouch (ranked #12 in fighters’ weight class)
Round one starts off with Callow landing a number of leg kicks showing he is the strong kick boxer. Crouch starts exchanging which leads to both fighters swinging for the fences. Callow catches Crouch with a big right jab on the button dropping Crouch. Callow runs to finish the fight jumping on Crouch with some standing GNP. Callow does a slick transition into mount still raining punches down while Crouch is scrambling trying to get out. Crouch get’s his way of the mounted position and grabs Callow’s leg looking for a leg lock. Callow is smiling while still bringing down punches. Crouch just can’t shake Callow off so he rolls to his stomach allowing Callow get his back and GNP till the ref stopped it.

Bout 5: Adam Flowers vs Mike Bryant
Flowers starts the round with some low leg kicks which triggered Bryant to start throwing haymakers. Bryant clinches trying to get a takedown but Flowers does a beautiful hip toss getting the takedown. Flowers in Bryant’s guard not doing much throwing a few punches here and there. Fighters scramble their way up and Bryant get’s a text book takedown but left his neck wide open as Flowers grabs it and starts cracking.

Bout 6: Chris Shinner vs Dan Velten
In round one both fighters are feeling each other out throwing combos not landing much. Velten shoots for a takedown getting it with the help of the cage. Shinner is looking solid on the ground try for submission after submission. In round two both start off like the first round throwing some punches nothing landing or doing damage. Velten shoots for a takedown landing in side control but Shinner the more experienced grappler scrambles out to take Velten’s back. Shinner is working for a RNC while Velten is scrambling to get out trying to roll to pull guard Shinner mounts Velten unleashing a vicious GNP. Velten can’t get out and that’s it the ref stepped in.

Bout 7: Coty Cook vs Darnell Barley (ranked #6 in fighters’ weight class)
Round one starts off fast paced with Barley throwing some kicks and punches that miss. Then, bam, Barley catches Cook with a right hook that drops him. Barley rushes to finish with some GNP. Cook works his way out of danger and stands back up. Both fighters start exchanging hard shots one after another. Fighters push up against the cage and switch back n forth from holding the dominate position on the cage while exchanging shots. Round two opens up with both fighters exchanging shots. Both fighters are trying for takedowns but getting stuffed. Finally Barley gets a takedown into side control while Cook works submissions from his back. Round three starts off with Cook shooting in but getting stuffed. Barley lands a groin shot ref calls time for Cook. Cook comes back after the time with some big shots and clinches Barley. Round ends with both fighters exchanging.

Sudden Impact Bantamweight Title
Bout 8: Adame Dunnavant (ranked #1) vs Zach Stamp (ranked #6)
Round one starts off with both fighters being very cautious and hesitant. Dunnavant shoots in for a takedown into Stamps guard. Stamp quickly looking for a triangle choke but Dunnavant pushes off and transitions to half guard. Stamp grabs Dunnavant’s neck trying for a guillotine as they scramble rolling around Dunnavant pulls guard. Dunnavant grabs Stamp arm for arm bar but Stamp pulls out and stays in Dunnavant’s guard. Seconds later, Dunnavant pulled his arm again Stamp taps out.

Bout 9: Brandon Berry vs J.R. Michiosy
Berry starts off the round by dancing around the cage as he goes to exchange he clinches with Michiosy. Michiosy hip tosses Berry into side control which wasn’t enough as Michiosy took mount position to end the fight with some vicious GNP.

Bout 10: Brian Mason (ranked #5) vs Josh Lohman (ranked #7)
Lohman was a no show
Sudden Impact Lightweight Title
Bout 11: Eric Vasquez (ranked #11) vs Chazz Kellison (ranked #13)
Round one starts off with Vasquez pushing the pace with low leg kicks and combos. Kellison clinches up pushing Vasquez against the cage throwing some nice knees to the body as both are looking for a takedown. Kellison get’s takedown into side control but Vasquez quickly works back up. Vazquez shoots but Kellison stuffs him throwing him against the cage and grabs for a standing kimura Vasquez tries dropping to the mat to get out but Kellison stays with it and pulls off the submission.

Bout 12: Steve Knogl (ranked #3) vs Mario Vazquez (ranked #2)
These two big boys start round one off by circling. Knogl has the old boxer stance arms down by his belly not covering his chin. Vazquez throws a low leg kick and rushes in for a takedown but Knogl stuffs it by pressing Vazquez up against the cage. Both fighters are scrambling positions on the cage changing back and forth. Knogl let’s off and they return to the center of the cage where Vazquez throws a overhand right that rocks Knogl. But Knogl doesn’t let it bother him as he shoots for a takedown into half guard.
Round two Vazquez opens up with some hard punches but decides to back up and Knogl drops Vazquez to his knees with a right hook. From there Knogl stayed on top working GNP through out the rest of the round. Knogl’s ear is bleeding bad at this point.
Round three Knogl looks gassed but pushes through as he gets a takedown landing in side control putting Vazquez in the crucifix position unleashing some GNP. From there Knogl goes back and forth from side control to mount to taking Vazquez back. The crowd is going crazy screaming Steve’s name. Round ends with Knogl on top.
