American Cagefighting Championships presents: Collegiate Clash

March 16, 2010
Saturday, March 6th was the premiere of American Cagefighting Championships first venture into MMA. The event was held at the St. Charles Convention Center, which is always a fantastic place to hold fights. Promoters, Luke Elders and Will Davidson did a decent job for their first show. There were a few bugs that need to be worked out but that comes with time and experience. The fight card had some familiar faces and featured some reputable gyms, but there were also many new faces I have never seen before. Each fighter was interviewed before hand and their intro included this interview before every walk out. Normally, this would take up way too much time, but it was a light fight card, so you didn’t notice any delay. The fight was sanctioned by the Combat Sports Commission and referee for the night was Steve Snipes. All in all, it was a solid showing for ACC, and I’m sure they will continue to grow as they work through the kinks of holding fights. I look forward to their next show in June.
215-Johnny Blackburn defeats Matt Byers by Unanimous Decision
170-Dan Velten defeats Jake Buehler by armbar @ 1:51 of round 3
This was a good show for Velten’s BJJ skills. He has very good guard on the ground and had numerous submission attempts. Buehler was very aggressive with the takedowns but just couldn’t do much inside Velten’s guard.
205-Terry Mosier defeats Brandon Burry by TKO @ 1:51 of round 1
135-Al Buzman defeats Damian Newman by TKO @ 14 seconds of round 1
170-Jordan Compton defeats Christopher Natsch by tapout @ 1:50 of round 2 (Rear Naked)
145-Josh Crouch defeats Mario Smith by tapout @ 2:01 of round 2 (Armbar)
This was a very evenly matched fight. Smith had more takedowns than Crouch, but Crouch’s BJJ skills were better and he had numerous submission attempts on Smith.
140-Ken Porter defeats Nick Blaskie by tapout @ 1:13 of round 1 (Triangle)
150-Matthew Saller defeats Ray Blaskie by TKO @ 1:56 of round 1
